Jordan Forget, MS (’21), Scores Big with the Dallas Mavericks

After graduating Logan University’s Master of Science in Sports Science and Rehabilitation (MS-SSR) program in 2021, Jordan Forget landed his dream job as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks.

“I was never the best student, but I found a deep interest in sports science and rehabilitation,” said Jordan. “Before long I knew I had found the right career.”

Jordan received his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst before pursuing his MS-SSR degree from Logan.

“COVID-19 made getting a master’s degree a bit more challenging,” said Jordan. “But luckily I found Logan, which was affordable, accredited and available online.”

By networking virtually and completing an in-person strength and conditioning internship in Boston, Jordan began building a list of connections that would eventually land him a job with the Dallas Mavericks.

“I reached out to professionals who have or had the job I wanted, not only as a networking tool, but also as a learning tool. I think learning from someone with an inside perspective in your desired field allows you to better understand the realities and expectations of the job,” said Jordan.

Jordan began working as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Mavericks this year and directly works with three to four players at a time.

“The players are divided amongst our staff to ensure each player gets the attention they need,” said Jordan. “We assist with performance, 当然, but also recovery, 营养, and anything we feel will help contribute to a player’s needs. Sometimes the coaches will even ask for help with practices, which is a pretty awesome opportunity.”

Working in professional sports has shown Jordan the value in being passionate about your chosen career.

“This field is very competitive,” said Jordan. “There are a lot of opportunities to learn and grow; you just need to find your passion and niche that most interests you and pursue it with everything you’ve got.”
